Indoor track records tumble in 2005-2006 season

2005-2006 was clearly the most successful season yet in Deep Run's brief track and field history. New school records were established in eleven of fifteen events by the boys team and in twelve of fifteen events by the girls team.

Ashley Orr, Brianna Hudson, Joanna Hassell, and the Fuson sisters Megan and Katie were responsible for seven of the new school standards for the girls, together with Erin Bragg's continued record setting performances in the distance events and Courtney King's 500 M dash record. Only Erin's 2005 1000 M, Erin Gallagher's 55 M hurdles, and the 2-year old 4x800 relay record set by Bragg, Kate Putney, Bridget Draper and Lindsey Jones remain from prior years.

Equally impressive were the accomplishments of a wide variety of boys team members. Kirk Fischer, Matthew Armentrout, Wayne Malcolm, Drew Spicer, David Lynch, Davis Franklin, Scott Howe, Lewis Holston, and Tyler Benson all contributed to the eleven new school records. Only Kyle Sexton (55 M dash, 300 M dash, and long jump) and Sam Mertz (shot put) remain among the prior DRHS records holders after the 2005-2006 season.

Colonial District Indoor Track and Field Championships

February 17th and 18th at the Arthur Ashe Athletic Center

All of the meets up to this point have been in preparation for this weekend. All of the practices have been focused on the next 3 weeks. The District Championship is the first of a 3 meet campaign that determines the legacy of this team. What will the 2005-06 Indoor track and field program put in the record books?

This has already been a cornerstone season. The time is now to come together as teammates to compete with intensity and focus in the pursuit of the District title. It will be close, but the depth of our team can and will prevail. Each of you must do your part to prove that we deserve the District Crown.
