DRHS scores in Virginia State Championship

Friday-Saturday, March 3-4, 2006 - George Mason University, Fairfax, VA

Deep Run scored its first-ever points in a State Championship track and field meet this past weekend. Ashley Orr gained an eighth-place finish in the triple jump and the girls 4x200 M relay team of Megan Fuson, Katie Fuson, Ashley Orr, and Joanna Hassell took seventh place. The relay team bettered their previous mark of 1:47.56 by 1.90 seconds to win their heat in 1:45.66. The Wildcat team was the only team from the 1st and 2nd heats to finish in scoring position. Deep Run's 3 points left them tied for 37th place among the 45 teams posting scores.

DRHS boys join girls in State Championship performances

Earlier in the competition, Ashley Orr and Megan Fuson jumped to 11th and 17th place finishes in the long jump. Briana Hudson jumped 5' 0" to 17th in the high jump. The girls 4x400 team (Megan and Katie Fuson, Ashley Orr, and Brianna Hudson) wrapped up the girls' efforts with a DRHS record-setting 4:03.78 finish that was just out of the medals in ninth place.

On the boys side, Kirk Fischer and Matthew Armentrout each took 10th place finishes. Kirk jumped 6' 0" in the high jump and Matthew cleared 12' 6" in the pole vault. Drew Spicer ran to a 10:16.40 finish in the 3200 M run and a 28th place finish.
