DRHS 2006 Outdoor Season ends at state meet
Friday-Saturday, June 2-3, 2006 - Todd Stadium, Newport News, VA
The record and near-record setting performances that brought victory to Deep Run in the Colonial District were only memories as the Wildcat track team garnered only a single point in the AAA championship meet.
By the time Ashley Orr captured 8th with her 37' 5" triple jump, it was becoming clear that DRHS was not having the kind of success that had seemed at least possible going into the meet.
On Friday night, Ashley just missed scoring in the long jump and Kirk Fischer's 6' 2" high jump put him in 13th. Joanna Hassell ended out of the hunt in the 100M and Ashley Orr was 20th in the 200M preliminaries. Finally, the girls 4x800 M relay faced a field that was so strong that regional runner-up Midlothian was next to last.
On Saturday, Brianna Hudson was unable to match her PR performances of the recent past and ended tied for 9th with a 5' 2" jump. Matthew Armentrout had cleared 13' several times this season, but could only manage a 12' 6" vault to finish tied for 10th. The girls 4x100 M relay was disqualified, but would have needed to run 2/10ths of a second faster than their fastest this season to break into the top eight in the fast field.
Courtlin LaReau finished 23rd in the girls 800 M run, while David Lynch finished 22nd in the boys 800M. Erin Bragg wrapped up the day with an 11:55.09 finish in the 3200M for 31st.
With only one senior among those qualifying for the state meet, Deep Run can definitely look forward to the 2007 season.
